Samanta Tresha Lalla-Edward
Director: Research Development

Samanta leads Ezintsha’s Research Development portfolio. She is a public health researcher and monitoring and evaluation specialist experienced in HIV prevention and treatment research and implementation. Being a biological science and human behaviour scholar, Samanta has led the monitoring and evaluation of nationally implemented PEFPAR programmes and has been involved in large-scale research projects in the areas of HIV prevention technologies, cardiovascular disease, respiratory health, drug optimization, mHealth/digital health, diagnostics, high-risk populations, and road transport health.

Samanta is passionate about strengthening research capacity, particularly for postgraduate students. She collaborates with other investigators in Africa and globally to plan and operationalize clinical and healthcare research, as well as develop local staff in research and scientific writing capability. She is currently the chair of the NHLBI’s SiMPLE Alliance capacity building sub-committee.

Samanta is an investigator on multiple investigator driven grants, has over 50 peer reviewed publications in local and international journals, fulfils editing roles for several journals, has mentored or supervised 20 Masters students and is currently supervising five candidate PhDs. She serves as a mentor, reviewer and track chair for conferences including IAS/AIDS, Interest Workshop, Southern African HIV Clinicians Society Conference and the South African AIDS Conference.
